Shot on location in Cobar, Outback New South Wales a couple of weeks ago. We wrote notes to write a kit review but ran out of time as usual to put anything together. But this is the magnificent new kit modelled by Thom (what a wannabe hipster), the retro look is a big hit with the boys especially the Peter Wilson quote and the johnny collar, it retails for $100AU. Brisbane Roar – Puma

Brisbane’s puma kits this season are based around one of the german manufacturers global templates that are also used by clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Cardiff City. The club’s new adopted colour palette of orange, white and black has been put to good use in the new home kit similar to the Roar’s last home shirt. The away kit is a reversal of the home kit, white replacing Roar orange, with orange side panels completing the kit. Brisbane’s third kit ushers in grey into the Roar’s expanding colour palette, an orange sash overlaps the grey and creates a clean minimalistic design.

The moment Australia booked their spot at next year’s World Cup on tuesday night at ANZ Stadium. After grinding away at Iraq’s resolute defence Josh Kennedy leapt highest to head home a Bresciano cross. Our moment though is from full-time when Lucas Neill looks to the heavens in the realisation after a long and difficult campaign Australia are finally going to Brazil. Photo taken by Brendon Thorne.

The Moment: Australia vs Jordan WCQ

Cahill

The moment that Australia had secured the win against Jordan last night in Melbourne and take them into the automatic qualifying spots for Brazil 2014. Cahill ghosts into the box and heads home Kruse’s cross from the right wing past Amer Sabbah putting Australia 2-0 infront on the night.

England 13/14: Kit Review

England had their first outing with the newly released Nike home kit against Ireland at Wembley during the week. 4ATB kit reviewer Thom Kelly dissects Nike’s deal with England and looks at both the home and away kit.

When the deal was announced late last year that Umbro would be sold off from Nike’s umbrella of companies you knew it was the end for Umbro and England after decades of association. Umbro have manufactured and designed England’s kits for a large portion of the past fifty years if you ignore the short stint Admiral had with the FA in the late 70’s and early 80’s. In recent years Umbro under Nike’s ownership have remerged as one of the leading trend setters in the industry. However since the sale of Umbro to Iconix Brand Group, Nike have cherry picked Umbro’s marquee contracts and sought to expand their own portfolio. Umbro’s relevance within the industry is now uncertain as Nike have increased their footprint upon the market.

The poster incorporates the two club’s colours and kits into the design as well as touching upon the venue with a stylised vision of Wembley along with the twin lions referencing the FA’s 150th Anniversary.

Liverpool 13/14: Kit Review

Warrior recently released Liverpool FC’s new home kit for the 2012/13, resident kit-nerd Thom Kelly reviews the newest instalment on Merseyside for 4ATB.

Liverpool’s 2013/14 is a natural evolution of their most recent kit with Warrior tracking through the Anfield club’s visual history. The 2012/13 edition was inspired largely from Liverpool’s pre-WWII kits, with the flappy collar and minimalistic design influenced by history as well as new wave of ‘tailored’ kits largely manufactured by Umbro and Nike. This kit has drawn influence from one of Liverpool’s greatest nights, the 1984 European Cup Final, beating Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on penalties. The red and white three stripe pattern used on the 84′ collar is the main inspiration for the visual identity of the new kit. The pattern is introduced onto the collar, sleeve, shorts and socks and enforces the club’s visual history on the present.
